Under 8 - Micro Soccer Game Rules (4v4)
- Field – Equipment:
- 40 yards long by 25 yards wide with small-sided goals at each end
- Size 3 soccer ball
- All players must wear shin guards
- Game - Players:
- 4 players per team with no goalkeepers
- 4 x 12 minute quarters with 2 minute break between quarters and a 5 minute half time
- Each player shall play a minimum of 50% per game
- Substitutions should take place during each quarter break. However, players may be
substituted during any stoppage of play.
- Starting Play: Beginning of game, at quarters, half time, and after scores
- Home team (listed first on the schedule) will start the game with a kick off from the
center of the field as well as the start of the third quarter. The visiting team will start
the second and fourth quarters with a kick off.
- After a score – play will be restarted with a kick off from the middle of the field by the
non-scoring team.
- Ball out-of-bounds:
- The ball is considered out of bounds when the complete ball is outside the boundary lines.
To keep the game flowing, the ball should be clearly out of bounds before stopping play.
- Balls outside of the SIDE LINES will be put back into play via a throw in.
Players will be given a second chance to correct an illegal throw in.
- Balls out on the END LINE
- When played out by an attacker – a goal kick will take place 3 yards away from
the end line anywhere along the width of the field.
- When played out by a defender – a corner kick will be take place from the nearest
corner of the field.
- Violations and Officiating:
- · Officials will be provided for U8 games.
- Hand Ball – if an intentional handball is observed, stop play, correct the player, and
restart play with an indirect free kick. Play should not stop for unintentional handballs.
- Rough Play – stop play and explain why the behavior is incorrect. Award an indirect free
kick to the opponent.
- There are no Direct free kicks. All opposing players must be at least 4 yards away from any
restart kick.
- General Recommendations:
- Coaches and Players should shake hands after the game.
- Parents, Coaches, and Spectators should be there to enjoy and encourage all
players at all times.
- Spectator and team benches should be on opposite sides of the field.
- Scoring goals should be encouraged; score keeping should be eliminated.
