Coaching Principles and Guidelines (Role of the Coach) 2008 If you are a coach or trainer and interested in working with HSC, please print and complete this application and send it to us. Information is at the bottom of the application. All HSC coaches should understand the suggested work/rest time ratios and the recognition, treatment and return-to-play considerations for each of the heat-related illnesses outlined in the "Inter-Association Task Force on Exertional Heat Illnesses Consensus Statement" as published at the National Athletic Trainer's Association web site and at the National Strength and Conditioning Association web site. This document provides HSC coaches with cutting-edge information that will serve as a starting point for coaching decisions that meet the needs of our players in various settings and circumstances. Here in the southeastern United States, the temperature and humidity is routinely in the high or extreme or hazardous level of risk throughout a significant part of the year. While it may not be practical to reschedule or delay events, the coach must recognize that the level of risk is high and take appropriate steps to reduce risk. |
