Total Soccer Development
from Recreational to Elite
The HSC Total Soccer Development program is both a Curriculum and a
Philosophy. The primary goal of Huntsville Soccer Club is to provide development
and competitive opportunities for all ages and all ability levels. To accomplish
this goal we have implemented a "Total Soccer Development" system of training.
Currently, HSC sponsors teams in Division I, II, and III of the Alabama Youth
Soccer Association (AYSA),
which is associated with the United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA).
The Coaching staff is unparalleled in Alabama and one of the most experienced in
the south. Among our staff, we have three coaches with National Coaching
Licenses; twelve former college players; one former college All-American; a
former National team player; former professional players and MLS player; coaches
with additional Brazilian, Dutch and English Coaching Licenses; current and
former high school and college coaches; and playing experience from the United
States, England, Ethiopia and Uganda. Foremost in the mind of each coach is the
desire to share with every HSC player a genuine love for the world’s beautiful
game.
HSC offers Division 1 teams for girls and boys in the U13 through U18 age
groups. Each team is formed by an annual competitive tryout. Players are
selected on the basis of soccer skills, tactical awareness, fitness, attitude,
commitment to soccer and willingness to engage in the total HSC annual training
program. Division 1 play with HSC is for the serious soccer family and players
who have chosen soccer as their primary sport, while scheduling other
non-academic activities around soccer. DI is the most competitive State
sponsored league providing the highest level of play within the state of
Alabama. Division I teams compete in Snickers State Cup and at U14 and above,
may qualify for regional and national championship play. The DI state league
requires travel as far away as Montgomery.
HSC offers Division 2 teams for boys and girls in the U11 through U18 age
groups. Placement on a Division 2 team will be determined by coach evaluation.
Division 2 teams provide a full season training opportunity, but amount and
distance of travel and duration of seasonal play will normally be less than
Division 1 teams. The Division 2 training and competitive alternative is well
suited to those players wanting to engage in multiple team sports. Division 2 is
the highest level of play available for U11 and U12 teams. DII is a competitive
State league with Regional separation. This league provides a high level of play
within your half of the state of Alabama. Division II teams qualify for the
Division II state championship. Division II champions do not qualify for
regional or national championship play. The DII state league requires travel as
far away as Birmingham.
HSC offers Division 3 teams for girls and boys for the playing ages U9 through
U13. These teams will compete in The North Alabama Soccer League and the
majority of games will take place in Huntsville. Any player desiring to compete
on a Division 3 team may do so simply by registering with HSC. HSC will field as
many teams in each age group as possible subject to minimum roster requirements
and available coaches. DII is a competitive local league sponsored by North
Alabama Soccer League (NASL) providing a higher level of play for teams wishing
to play within a restricted geographical area (primarily Madison County). DIII
teams may compete in the Governors Cup state championship event.
Olympic Development (ODP) play is determined by statewide competitive tryouts.
Several HSC coaches have served as staff coaches for the
Alabama Olympic Development Program. ODP is the system in Alabama by which
players are identified and potentially moved forward through the National
program for the United States. HSC is well represented by its player base
in the ODP program.
HSC also offers Elite teams in the U14 and older
age groups. Elite play - Super Y League (SYL) provided by United Soccer Leagues
(USL) and US Club Soccer partner to create new opportunities for the elite level
players. They form the most competitive leagues possible for the most
accomplished youth players in the Southeastern United States. We have also
formed a sister-club relationship with the Heroes FC which allows our players to
be seen under a greater US Club Soccer umbrella. The Heroes FC is directed
by Desmond Armstrong, former US National Team Player.
We urge all north Alabama players to take advantage of the opportunities offered
by Huntsville Soccer Club and our "Total Soccer Development" system of training.
HSC has a place for everyone; from the new player to the experienced player
with the highest competitive goals.
